When Going Away for Opium Rehab is the Best Choice

Some individuals may choose to stay local for their opium rehab treatments and, in many cases, this can be the best option. However, sometimes going away for treatment is the best choice for certain individuals. Many factors should be considered in this instance, but local rehab is not always best for opium addiction.

Psychiatric Severity

Often, many people who go away for substance abuse treatment need to stay at an inpatient program that is specifically set up for their needs. According to a study from the NCBI, “Patients with high psychiatric severity… are predicted to have a better outcome in inpatient treatment.” In many cases, chronic drug abusers have other psychiatric disorders that must be dealt with and treated alongside their addictions. Some common disorders are:

opium rehab

Opium rehab may be necessary in cases of psychiatric severity.

  • Depression
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Anxiety disorder
  • PTSD
  • Schizophrenia

If you have a high psychiatric severity in addition to your opium addiction and need a rehab facility that will treat your disorders as well, you may need to attend a specific type of facility equipped to handle your needs. This may mean going farther away in order to find the right facility.

No Support System

In many cases, patients are comforted by the closeness of their support systems while they are going through addiction treatment. This is one of the reasons why many patients attend outpatient centers in order to still be close with their friends and family after they leave treatment. However, if you do not have a strong support system, you may want to choose an inpatient facility as well.

This can also sometimes mean that you will want to leave your area to recover in another place. Not having a strong support system can make it very difficult during this time of recovery and withdrawal, and being in a new place may help you to think about this less.

Go Where You Can Heal

The NIDA states, “Effective treatment attends to multiple needs of the individual.” For many people, their home cities are a constant reminder of their abuse. They could be bombarded with the constant overload of triggers when they go out to the places they used to visit while abusing opium and, sometimes, could even be dealing with problems with other people who do not want them to get well.

Being in your local environment could also cause it to be impossible to step away from the stressors of your life while you are trying to heal. If your environment is making it impossible for you to recover from your opium abuse, you may want to choose a rehab facility father away in order to get some distance and be able to heal properly.

As stated by the NIDA, “Treatment needs to be readily available.” But sometimes, a person has to go out of their way in order to find just the right treatment. A patient is more likely to be successful with rehab, stay in treatment longer, and have a longer recovery afterward if they attend the right facility which addresses all of their needs. And it may be necessary to go away in order to find that for your opium addiction.
